Background

Whilst great progress has been made over the last decade towards introducing concepts of sustainability, significant cultural change within the live production industry has not yet arisen. Sustainability has entered our practice but this has rarely led to combined and concerted action.

At PLASA 2014 a panel assembled by the Association of Lighting Designers debated sustainability. During the debate it became apparent that sustainability had not moved forward substantially within the industry since 2008. Furthermore, it was recognised that each facet of the industry working disparately could not affect the necessary culture change. This realisation created a wave of concern and ultimately led to the creation of SiPA – The Sustainability in Production Alliance.

The SiPA development goals initiative provides momentum to a culture of sustainability in our industry.

SiPA exists to co-create a culture of sustainability in our industry that is supported at all levels of the supply chain and at all stages of the production life-cycle. SiPA is our generation’s opportunity to create a legacy of ongoing action that sustains the creativity of future generations. SiPA is our gift to culture.
